Communications and Marketing Coordinator

The Communications and Design Coordinator works with the Executive Director and others in
the organization to develop and implement communications strategies with Alberta Diabetes
Foundation’s key constituencies (students, volunteers, event committees, community supporters,
prospective funders and board members).

The Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are in marketing and communications in an effort to
promote positive public image among Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s various audiences and advance
Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s efforts to raise money.

This position will also collaborate with others in the organization to achieve
brand consistency, coordination of messages, and the highest standards for external
communications. This position is responsible for coordinating organization-wide design,
message, and content generation, including electronic and print communications.
Responsibilities:

Print Materials
 Creation, produce and disseminate printed publications for education, development, and administration purposes (such as bi-annual newsletter, annual report, course brochures, and exhibition and event postcards)
 Manage creation and selection of photography for print and electronic communications
 Support the development and execution of identity and collateral materials for major organizational initiatives
 Create and coordinate production schedules and maintain ongoing relationships with mail houses, printers, and photographers
 Evaluate and negotiate vendor contracts including photographers

Electronic/New Media
 Collaboratively manage the creation and updating of web-content; responsible for content related protocols to keep web site up-to-date
 Work with technology and staff to ensure ongoing improvement of website, including phased updates and redesigns
 Implement e-communications for donors and general public
 Provide organization-wide e-communications support; manage Constant Contact database
 Lead Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s efforts to remain up-to-date and effective in electronic communications through convening regular meetings and conversations
 Pioneer Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s social media participation, taking organization from a sporadic Facebook participant to an active and innovative presence on established and new social media outlets
 Actively monitor Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s online reputation
Media Relations
 Conduct media relations program for selected events or activities
 Write and distribute press releases
 Pitch the local and national media to secure media placement
 Maintain media archives

Requirements

 Post-Secondary degree or diploma in communications, web and digital design or equivalencies
will be considered, especially degrees or diplomas from programs that include development of
strong writing skills.
 This entry level position will be ideal for a recent graduate or an individual with 1-2 year’s
experience.
 Demonstrated knowledge of developing, maintaining and administering open source content management systems
 Intermediate front-end development skill, including responsive design.
 Exceptional organizational, data entry and typing skills, strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
 High familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
 Experience working with Bootstrap, Sitecore, Wordpress InDesign and Adobe Acrobat .
 Knowledgeable and experienced in writing for the web.
 A “take ownership” team player with a positive “can-do” attitude is a must
 Good knowledge of markup languages (HTML and CSS)
