Senior Philanthropy Officer

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Philanthropy Officer is an integral part of the ADF’s fundraising and stewardship activities. This is an exciting time for ADF as we strive to double our fundraising revenues by 2024. You will play a key role in securing major gifts, implementing, and refining fundraising strategies, engaging Albertans in the ADF’s vision and mission and ensuring donor stewardship is top of mind. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of securing 6+ figure gifts. The Senior Philanthropy Officer will be one of the primary relationship builders for the ADF, and as such will maintain close working relationships with key researchers, clinical staff at ADI and affiliate counterparts, external stakeholders, and volunteers. This role will work closely with staff to engage, mobilize and achieve annual fundraising revenues.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop, implement, and enhance strategies to grow revenue across a portfolio of fundraising initiatives, setting annual benchmarks for growth and goal achievement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the major gifts portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors to increase the number of donors and the size of gifts. This encompasses directing the research, identification, cultivation, and tracking of major gifts and planned giving prospects.
  • Solicit major gifts in one-on-one meetings (in person, virtual, or phone calls) with donors.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify project funding needs and develop strategies to achieve strategic goals and targets.
  • Lead and manage ADF’s signature fundraising and donor recognition events in collaboration with development team.
  • Collaborate with development staff on revenue generation from a variety of sources, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and special events.
  • Track and report on retention and growth of fundraising initiatives, and refine strategies as needed to achieve fundraising targets.
  • Build and foster relationships with existing and potential donors to understand donor expectations, show appreciation and demonstrate impact.
  • Create and develop stewardship plans and integrate the plans into the Philanthropy team’s portfolio.
  • Schedule, track, and report on timely tangible meaningful communication that demonstrates donor appreciation.
  • Identify donor succession opportunities promote consistent donors to major gift giving.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge on sector and best practices within the industry to ensure.


Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-7 years experience in successful fundraising is required, with a minimum 5 years proven experience in major and transformational gift solicitation.
  • CFRE designation is an asset.
  • An understanding of moves management, pipeline development, solicitation strategies, donor relations, and stewardship is required.
  • Effective at building positive relationships with staff and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels; professional in all dealings with internal and external stakeholders
