Imagine if every empty bottle, can, or milk jug in your home could help find a cure for diabetes. With SkipTheDepot and the Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF) working together, that’s exactly what can happen!

When you give through programs like SkipTheDepot (a free, easy-to-use service that turns recyclables into donations at no cost to you), you’re helping real people in our province.

You’re ensuring a newly diagnosed child has hope for a future without insulin injections, or that an adult with diabetes can benefit from emerging therapies being developed in Alberta’s research centers.

It’s an eco-friendly way to give back, turning your recyclables into research funding and bringing us closer to a cure for diabetes.

How SkipTheDepot Works

  1. Sign Up: Download the SkipTheDepot app from the App Store or Google Play, or visit the SkipTheDepot website (You can also use our direct SkipTheDepot link to have ADF pre-selected as your charity.)

  2. Schedule a Pickup: Create an account and enter your address. Select Alberta Diabetes Foundation as your donation organization – this ensures your bottle refund goes to ADF’s cause. You can also scan our ADF SkipTheDepot QR code for quick access!

  3. Set Out Your Recyclables: Bag or box your empty bottles (and other accepted items) and set them outside on your scheduled pickup day. Use the “pickup instructions” field in the app to note where your bags will be, or any special directions for the driver.

  4. Funds are Donated: After collection, SkipTheDepot will count your items and credit the refund amount to your account within about 48 hours. If you’ve selected ADF, 100% of those funds will be directed as a donation to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation – supporting our mission one bottle at a time.

    Take your bottles to a participating bottle depot and ask the staff to donate the proceeds to Alberta Diabetes Foundation. Simply show the depot our ADF SkipTheDepot QR code (or tell them to find Alberta Diabetes Foundation in their SkipTheDepot system) to have your refund directed to ADF.

  • Multiply your impact by rallying friends, family, or coworkers to donate their recyclables! SkipTheDepot makes it easy to start a fundraiser where others can contribute their bottle returns to ADF.
