In Memoriam: Robert H. (Bob) Teskey, KC

“The institute wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the foundation, and the foundation wouldn't be here if it wasn't for people like Bob”

Peter Senior | Director, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - Alberta Diabetes Research Institute

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Robert H. (Bob) Teskey, KC, a long-standing and respected member of the Alberta Diabetes Foundation community, who passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025.

Living with type 1 diabetes for more than six decades, Bob approached life with resolve, humility, and a belief that diabetes should never define one’s future. In 1999, he was among the first participants in the Edmonton Protocol clinical trial at the University of Alberta—work that reshaped diabetes research worldwide and provided Bob with years of insulin independence, significantly improving his quality of life.

Bob held deep respect for the researchers and clinicians whose dedication drives medical progress. That respect guided his long-standing service to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation as a committed Director Emeritus, where he contributed thoughtful leadership, lived experience, and a steady commitment to advancing diabetes research and care in Alberta.

Beyond his contributions to the diabetes community, Bob devoted more than 50 years to the practice of law, including more than 25 years as Managing Partner at Field Law, where he was widely respected as a leader and mentor.

Bob will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and belief in the power of research to change lives. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

Bob Teskey’s vision was clear: a world where diabetes no longer holds anyone back. You can help turn that vision into a reality. In honour of Bob’s life and his decades of service, we invite you to make a commemorative donation to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation. Every gift fuels the life-changing research Bob championed so fiercely.
